Equities in Europe maintain initial drops; pound sinks

Following the slide in early trading on European stock exchanges on Friday, the euro jumped 0.35% against the pound and 0.14% versus the dollar (both 11:14 a.m. CET). The British currency lost 0.21% compared to the greenback, 0.43% versus the yen and 0.37% against the franc. 

The Stoxx 50 fell 1.59% at 11:01 a.m. CET and at the same time the Euro Stoxx 50 lost 1.42%. The biggest move on the red side of the chart was registered for shares of Zurich Insurance, 8.8%. Next by losses were BP, falling 4.1%, and Novartis, 3.3% in the red. Richemont, Telefonica, British American Tobacco all dropped over 3%. Airbus Group and Telefonica were both down 2.7%.

Deutsche Bank, meanwhile, led the handful of gainers with a rise of 2.1%, followed by UniCredit, Societe Generale and Banco Santander, which advanced moderately, over 1%.
