Europe closes mixed as US-N.Korea talks restart

Stock markets in Europe closed mixed on Friday as United States President Donald Trump said Washington has resumed talks with North Korea over a possible meeting. Trump also hinted that it is possible that his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could still take place on June 12. Meanwhile, Fiat Chrysler Automobile N.V. said it is recalling 4.8 million vehicles in the US due to a cruise-control issue. GDP growth in the United Kingdom was estimated at 0.1% in the first quarter. The European Union's new digital data law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force today.

The FTSE 100 was 0.26% higher at the end of the trading day. Smurfit Kappa Group Plc rose 3.47%.

The DAX gained 0.61% at the closing bell, as Germany's largest residential property company​ Vonovia SE added 2.21%.

The CAC 40 closed 0.18% in the red. UK-based TechnipFMC declined 3.06%.

The euro lost 0.48% compared to the dollar at 5:33 pm CET and sold for 1.16628, while the pound was down 0.5% against the dollar and sold for 1.3314.
