Volkswagen AG's switch to industrial cloud in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) will also include Siemens AG, which will be responsible for implementation and the integration of various machines and systems in 122 factories. The announcement published on Friday adds production data is planned to be processed before transmission for efficiency. The project with Amazon.com Inc. includes the development of applications for use by other entities and the predictive maintenance of machines.

The solutions will be worked on within the MindSphere framework, the companies said and revealed they aim to use data transparency and analysis for upgrades to productivity at the automotive giant's facilities. Siemens and suppliers of production tools are preparing to get the internet of things (IoT) system to the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud. "We will network machinery, production systems and equipment more effectively using MindSphere and our automation platforms," said Klaus Helmrich from the German engineering company's board.
