Asian equities higher on trade optimism

Shares in Asia-Pacific were mostly higher on Friday as investors rallied on the news that a trade deal between Beijing and Washington may be close. Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly called for an early conclusion of negotiations with the United States following "new substantial progress," while his American counterpart claimed the talks were "coming along well."

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.26% at 7:17 am CET. The dollar traded 0.04% higher against the yen, to go for ¥111.7115 at 7:38 am CET.

South Korean Kospi Composite grew just 0.02% at 7:38 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.80% at 7:39 am CET.

Stock markets in Hong Kong and Mainland China were closed for the Qingming Festival.
