Marriott, Expedia sign new multi-year agreement

Hotel chain Marriott International Inc. and travel booking website Expedia signed a new multi-year deal that will see the former's listings appear on the latter's website, CNBC reported on Thursday.

The deal will continue the pair's arrangement for booking last-minute guests and broaden Expedia's role within Marriott's leisure packaging platform. The two companies will also launch a distribution arrangement that will handle more than just last-minute bookings in the fourth quarter of the year.

In addition, sources familiar with the matter said that Expedia's commission rate will be in the 10% range, with the last reported range having been 12%. The news comes after Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson said last year that the company was trying to reduce commissions for online travel agencies.
