Japan's inflation at 0.5% in March

Japan's consumer prices went up 0.5% in March compared to the same month last year, according to the Statistics Bureau, with an index of 101.5. On a monthly basis, the seasonally adjusted consumer price index was unchanged.

Taking into account all items minus fresh food, the CPI stood at 101.5, down 0.8% annually, but unchanged monthly. The prices of all items without fresh food and energy rose 0.4% year-on-year but stayed the same compared to February, with an index of 101.3. The prices of fuel, light and water charges increased the most, 5.1% compared to March 2018, or 0.2% month-on-month. Food and transportation prices went down the most, both decreasing by 0.3% on a yearly basis, or 0.3% and 0.4% compared to February.
