The central post office in the building of Afghanistan's Ministry of Telecommunications was targeted in Saturday's attack together with the Ministry of Information and Culture, spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior Nasrat Rahimi said. The four militants were shot down in a five-hour battle and seven people died, authorities said.

Eight persons were wounded and more than 2,800 workers were taken to safety, the ministry claimed. Other high-ranking officials put the death toll at between two and five. Another report from the ground indicated three police officers perished alongside four civilians. Security officials said they believe the initial explosion was caused by a suicide bomber.
