French police arrest over 120 in yellow vests protest

The Ministry of the Interior in Paris said on Saturday that some of the protestors who came out to the streets of the French capital for the 23rd week in a row broke shop windows and started several small fires in the city. There were more than 6,700 so-called yellow vests in demonstrations today and more than 120 were apprehended by security officers in clashes.

People who gathered wore banners with slogans like 'We Are All Cathedrals' between the Place de la Bastille and the Place de la République, criticizing the government and rich people for neglecting the people while pledging vast sums of money for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral. The building was struck by fire on April 15.

President Emmanuel Macron was particularly slammed as he hinted he would water down tax relief and policy overhaul, which was prompted late last year by the protests. Citizens are questioning the motives behind massive donations for the cathedral as they could be as much as 66% deductible.
