Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded in the red on Monday amid uncertainty regarding progress in trade negotiations between Beijing and Washington. The Japanese Nikkei 225 ended 0.72% higher, while the South Korean Kospi Composite decreased 1.13%. China's Shanghai Composite was down 1.27% at 8:06 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite dropped 1.62% at the same time. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.25%.

The US dollar lost 0.22% against the Japanese yen to change hands for 109.71 at 8:08 am CET.
