Japan's industrial production 2.1% lower in May YoY

Industrial production in Japan dropped 2.1% in May on a yearly basis, with an index of 97.8, according to a revised report by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The preliminary figures showed a fall of 1.8%. The seasonally adjusted production index was at 104.9, showing that production grew 2.0% compared to the previous month.

The index of shipments was at 104.0, rising 1.3% in May compared to April; year-on-year, it reached 95.3, falling by 1.8%. The seasonally adjusted inventories index stood at 104.3, gaining 0.5% month-on-month, while the original index was at 105.1, which indicated a 1.5% growth compared to the same month in 2018. The inventory ratio was reported at 106.4, up 1.7% from April, and jumping 4.5% on a yearly basis for an index of 114.4.
