Switzerland's Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) has not yet been contacted by Facebook Inc. over "potential" oversight of its newly launched digital currency Libra, the regulator's head of communication Hugo Wyler said in a statement sent to CNBC on Tuesday.

"Until today we have not been contacted by the promoters of Libra," the statement noted, adding that the body expects "concrete information when the time comes" so that it can decide on the scope of supervision and legal advice it will provide.

Earlier in the day, head of Facebook's virtual currency unit Calibra, David Marcus, named FDPIC as the "Libra Association’s privacy regulator" in his testimony before the United States Congress.
