Dow jumps 150 pts premarket after selloff

Thursday, 15. August 2019 10:19

Stocks on Wall Street posted gains in premarket trade on Thursday after a selloff yesterday sparked by recession fears after the brief inversion of the main yield curve, as well as weak economic data from China and Europe. The tensions over Hong Kong somewhat eased as President Donald Trump offered to meet China's President Xi Jinping to discuss the handling of the crisis that looms over unresolved trade tensions. However, Beijing still fears Washington could influence the developments negatively for its interests.

At 4:18 am ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index added 150 points in the premarket, or 0.59%, after closing 800 points in the red.

The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.45% while the S&P 500 increased 0.64%.

The euro was up by 0.11% against the dollar at 4:20 am ET, buying $1.11508.
