Trump slams France over digital tax, threatens countermeasures

United States President Donald Trump slammed France before departing for the G7 summit for introducing the digital tax, calling the measure "unfair" to big American tech companies.

"I don't want France going out and taxing our companies," Trump told reporters outside the White House. "And if they do that, we'll be taxing their wine or doing something else," he threatened.

In July, Trump already threatened to retaliate for France's digital tax, while tech giants, including Google, Amazon and Facebook, called the measures "discriminatory." However, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire insisted Paris will implement the tax despite warnings from Washington.
