Youtube CEO: Openness is essential for platform

Openness remains an "essential" part of Youtube and the Alphabet-owned video-sharing service will remain open in the future, Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki said in a blog post on Tuesday. However, the CEO stressed that Youtube keeps updating its guidelines and that it plans to "reduce the spread of content that brushes right up against" Youtube's policies.

Wojcicki added: "A commitment to openness is not easy. It sometimes means leaving up content that is outside the mainstream, controversial or even offensive. But I believe that hearing a broad range of perspectives ultimately makes us a stronger and more informed society, even if we disagree with some of those views."

The CEO noted that Youtube will continue to remove content that violates its guidelines, especially when it comes to topics like hate speech and child safety. She added that Youtube plans to increase the visibility of "authoritative voices when people are looking for breaking news" and pointed out that the company will introduce new reward system for "trusted" creators.
