Alphabet Inc. said it had received a request for information and documents from the Department of Justice in relation to prior antitrust probes. The civil investigative request was received on August 30.

"We expect to receive in the future similar investigative demands from state attorneys general. We continue to cooperate with the DOJ, federal and state regulators in the United States, and other regulators around the world," Google's parent company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The DoJ announced in July it launched a wide-ranging probe into big tech companies' practices that may have "reduced competition, stifled innovation, or otherwise harmed consumers."
