US markets open higher ahead of Trump's UN speech

Major stock market indexes on Wall Street opened higher on Tuesday ahead of United States President Donald Trump's speech at the United Nations. Sentiment was positive after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that Washington and Beijing are set to continue their trade negotiations in two weeks. Earlier in the day, data from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) showed that the US housing price index increased in July.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.33% at 9:30 am ET as Apple Inc was one of the biggest winners in the index as it gained 1.45% at 9:47 am ET.

The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.48% in the first minute of trading. Wynn Resorts Limited jumped 3.83% at 9:34 am ET.

The S&P 500 increased 0.34% at 9:30 am ET.

The euro was up 0.06% against the dollar at 9:36 am ET, going for 1.09999.
