Wall Street opens lower amid fresh trade concerns

Markets in the United States opened lower on Monday on fresh trade war fears after reports emerged China wants more talks with the United States before signing the so-called phase one trade deal announced by US President Donald Trump last week. Traders also focused on the tensions in the Middle East amid Turkey's military operation in Northern Syria.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.20% at 9:30 am ET. Caterpillar, down 1.06% at 9:31 am ET, led the losses.

The Nasdaq 100 dipped 0.04% at 9:30 am ET. The worst performer was Check Point Software Technologies, whose shares dropped 2.12% at 9:31 am ET.

The S&P 500 was down 0.10% at 9:30 am ET as IPG Photonics plunged 4.79% at 9:46 am ET.

The euro lost 0.14% against the dollar to sell for 1.10226 at 9:32 am ET and the pound slid 0.50% compared to the greenback to go for 1.25841 at the same time.
