Eurozone construction output down 0.5% in August

Construction production in the euro area decreased by 0.5% in August compared to July, the European Union's statistical office Eurostat stated in a release on Thursday. In the whole of the European Union, production fell by 0.2% for the same time period. Compared with August 2018, construction was up by 1.2% in the Eurozone and by 1.9% in the whole union.

Civil engineering and building construction were 1.3% and 0.2% lower in the euro area on a monthly basis, while rising 1.6% and 0.9% annually. In the EU28, civil engineering fell by 1.2% while building construction increased by 0.1% month-on-month. Compared to the same month last year, civil engineering and building construction were 1.4% and 2.2% higher.
