US markets open mixed amid earnings

Wall Street started Wednesday's trading session mixed with earnings and trade in focus. United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said the ongoing negotiations with the European Union may ease the tensions between Washington and Brussels. Caterpillar Inc., Nasdaq Inc., The Blackstone Group Inc., and The Boeing Co. reported their third-quarter revenues, while eBay Inc., Microsoft Corp., Tesla Inc., Ford Motor Co., and PayPal Holdings Inc. were set to do so after the market close. Regarding other data, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announced the seasonally adjusted monthly index for house prices in the US rose 0.2% in August.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.18% at the opening bell, with Boeing gaining 2.46%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.20% as Texas Instruments Inc. dropped 6.73%. The S&P 500 was unchanged, with Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. being the best performer and Analog Devices Inc. the worst.

The euro traded flat against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for $1.11172. The pound was up 0.12% at the same time, changing hands for $1.28879.
