Europe closes higher after ECB holds rates

Equities on major stock markets in Europe finished Thursday’s trading session in the green after for the last time under Mario Draghi, the Governing Council of the European Central Bank kept interest rate unchanged and the rate-setters said the so-called asset purchase program will be resumed starting on November 1.

Draghi stressed the importance of cooperation between the International Monetary Fund and ECB calling it "the most essential ever."

The FTSE 100 in London closed 0.67% higher as Astrazeneca plc increased 5.67%. Germany's DAX rose 0.58% at the closing bell with Infineon Tech AG gaining 4.18%, while the CAC 40 in Paris rose 0.47% with Atos gaining 9.62%.

The euro fell against the dollar by 0.30% at 4:35 pm CET to change hands for $ 1.10967 At the same time, the pound fell 0.64% against the greenback to 1.28300.
