Wall Street closes in red as impeachment formalized

Trading on Wall Street finished in red on Thursday as President Donald Trump's impeachment inquiry was formalized by the House of Representatives. Also, Dow Jones fell around 150 points on reports claiming China doubts a long-term trade deal with the US is possible. However, Trump claimed the two countries will announce the location and timing of signing the phase one agreement soon. The social media company Pinterest Inc. is expected to report its earnings after the closing bell.

The Dow Jones fell 0.52% with Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc as the worst performer. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 decreased by 0.30% at the end of the session, brought down by Western Digital Corporation and Lincoln National Corp. Nasdaq 100 stood flat with Western Digital Corporation and MercadoLibre Inc. as the biggest losers.

The euro was flat against the greenback at 4:16 pm ET, to change hands for $1.11525. At the same time, the pound gained 0.38% to sell for $1.29487.
