Wall Street closes mostly flat, S&P ends on record close

Wall Street ended the trading day mostly flat after trade war fears were subdued by optimism on the USMCA's progress in Congress and reports that Washington and Beijing engaged in a new round of deputy-level trade telephone talks over their "phase-one" trade deal. After the bell, Nvidia is set to report its quarterly earnings.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq 100 ended flat, decreasing 0.01% and 0.02%, respectively, while the S&P 500 finished the day 0.09% in the green, reaching a record close. Cisco Systems Inc fell 7.33% after the company said its earnings per share declined 13% year-on-year while DXC Technology Co rose 3.55%.

The euro traded flat against the dollar at 1.10194 as it declined 0.01% at 4:11 pm ET.
