Google probed by EU over data collection

The European Commission confirmed it is currently conducting a preliminary investigation of Google over data collecting.

EU's executive said in a statement to Reuters: "The Commission has sent out questionnaires as part of a preliminary investigation into Google's practices relating to Google's collection and use of data." The focus of the probe is on local search services as well as advertising, according to an internal document seen by the news agency.

Competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager stated earlier in November that Google's suggestions on how to help competition among e-commerce comparison sites aren't sufficient. Google's last fine imposed by the EU amounted to $2.4 billion.
