The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Tuesday an official inquiry into Google LLC's $2.6B acquisition of Looker Data Sciences.

The antitrust watchdog stated that it is looking if the takeover may potentially lessen competition in the UK markets. The decision following the first phase of the investigation will be announced on February 13, the agency said.

The cash acquisition, which was supposed to result in Looker Data Systems being added to the Google Cloud platform, was revealed in June.
