Russia probes Booking over anti-monopoly breach

Monday, 30. December 2019 16:15

Russia's Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS) said on Monday it started the inspection of online travel fare aggregator Booking.com regarding a possible breach of Russian anti-monopoly laws.

The regulator stated that Booking interfered with the other companies' policies when it asked hotels which are advertising on rival reservation websites, to offer the same prices as on Booking.com. If the accusations turn to be true, the company could pay a fine between 1% and 15% on its whole Russian revenue.

This investigation came after Booking said two weeks ago it will end "manipulative techniques" and bring its work in line with the consumer law of the European Union.
