Alphabet's chief legal officer to 'retire' by end of month

Alphabet's chief legal officer David Drummond (pictured right) announced on Friday he is leaving the company by the end of January, saying he is "making way for the next generation of leaders."

"With Larry and Sergey now leaving their executive roles at Alphabet, the company is entering an exciting new phase, and I believe that it’s also the right time for me to make way for the next generation of leaders," Drummond said in a statement. "As a result, after careful consideration, I have decided to retire at the end of this month," he added.

Drummond is leaving the company in the wake of a sexual misconduct scandal after his former partner Jennifer Blakely alleged last year that he was having multiple affairs with employees of the company.
