France proposed digital tax solution to US - Le Maire

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Friday he made some proposals to the United States Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin regarding the digital tax dispute resolving. He said he intends to "make more, later this evening," but that it is "up to our American friends to make a move in the coming days."

Mnuchin added that if the US imposes sanctions against France over French digital tax, the European Union will retaliate.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) last month said that "France's Digital Services Tax (DST) discriminates against US companies", namely Google llc, Apple Inc., Facebook Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. USTR suggested imposing tariffs of up to 100% on certain imports from France "with an approximate trade value of $2.4 billion."
