Europe ends higher with earnings, Fed in focus

European markets ended Wednesday's session with gains ahead of the United States Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the European Parliament's vote on the Brexit deal. Investors also digested corporate earnings as companies including Santander and Novartis reported before the bell. In the US, Boeing, Mastercard, McDonald's and General Electric announced results earlier in the day, while Facebook, Microsoft and Tesla are all due to publish earnings reports after today's session.

The FTSE 100 added 0.12%. Melrose Industries led the gains as its stock jumped 3.34%.

The DAX increased 0.16% with Vonovia, up 1.49%, as the best performer.

The CAC 40 rose 0.52%. Safran pushed the index higher as it surged 4.19%.

The euro dipped 0.21% against the dollar to sell for 1.09992 at 5:32 pm CET and the pound lost 0.13% compared to the US currency to go for 1.30037 at the same time.
