Europe opens higher with US jobs report in focus

European stock markets opened higher on Friday as investors are waiting for the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics to come out with reports on the unemployment rate and nonfarm payrolls in the country. Also, it is expected that European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde participates later today in the special online edition of the State of the Union conference, organized by the European University Institute. According to the program, Lagarde will be delivering the opening address for the afternoon session which touches on "COVID-19: Economic policies for the aftermath."

The DAX jumped by 1.17% at the opening bell with Siemens AG rising 4.00%. The CAC 40 kicked off 0.91% higher as ArcelorMittal SA increased by 1.86%. The FTSE 100 in the United Kingdom was closed as the country celebrates the Early May Bank Holiday and VE Day.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to sell for $1.08335 at 9:05 am CET, while the pound grew against the greenback, going for $1.23806 one minute later.
