Wall Street opens in red on returning virus fears

Stocks traded lower on Wall Street at the beginning of Monday’s session as the number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases started rising again, putting the country's economic recovery under risk. Meanwhile, investors are waiting for the National Association of Realtors to release May's data about existing home sales.

The Dow Jones fell 0.35% at the opening bell, with Walgreens Boots Alliance dropping by 2.74%. At the same time, the S&P 500 lost 0.29%, as Royal Caribbean Cruises declined 3.44%. The Nasdaq 100 stood flat at the open, with United Airlines leading the losses.

The euro rose against the dollar by 0.39%, selling for $1.2221 at 9:31 am ET.
