Syndicate representatives at German carmaker Daimler said on Monday that "the tone of discussions is getting rougher and is putting our cooperation to the test," shortly after the company revealed it could furlough 15,000 employees.

Last week, Daimler board member Wilfried Porth warned that more than 15,000 workers will probably have to take a buyout or go to early retirement in order to evade forced layoffs.

Furthermore, the company's Chief Executive Ola Kallenius also insisted the carmaker will have to widen cost cuts due to one of the biggest falls in demand for cars and trucks ever.
