Walgreens CEO, chairman step down

Walgreens Chief Executive Officer Stefano Pessina informed the Board of Directors he will step down to become the chairman of the board, the company announced on Monday.

Pessina is set to replace James Skinner who is set to resign as executive chairman to stay with Walgreens as a board member. Both officials assumed their offices in January 2015.

"I look forward to continuing to serve the company as executive chairman, and to helping to ensure the success of the new chief executive officer in every way possible," Pessina said in a statement.
