T-Mobile US Inc. became the first operator to launch a "commercial nationwide standalone 5G network," the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

With this move, the telecommunications firm increased its 5G coverage by almost one third, as it is now able to reach 250 million additional clients in a total of over 2000 places, the statement read.

"Since Sprint became part of T-Mobile, we’ve been rapidly combining networks for a supercharged Un-carrier while expanding our nationwide 5G footprint, and today we take a massive step into the future with standalone 5G architecture," President of Technology at T-Mobile Neville Ray asserted.
