New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Thursday the state is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association, claiming the gun rights group is "fraught with fraud and abuse."

According to the lawsuit filed in the New York State Supreme Court, the NRA is believed to have spent $64 million made in charitable donations on personal trips, meals, and contracts.

"The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets in charitable donations for personal use. The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law," James said in a statement.
