Facebook Inc. is ready to "restrict the circulation of content" on its platform if the United States presidential elections in November turn "chaotic" or "violent," company's head of global affairs and communications Nick Clegg (pictured) told Financial Times on Tuesday.

"There are some break-glass options available to us if there really is an extremely chaotic and, worse still, violent set of circumstances," Clegg said without giving specifics on the measures.

The executive noted that it wouldn't be the first time such actions were taken, asserting that the social media giant previously restricted certain content in the parts of the world experiencing "real civic instability."
