The United Kingdom construction sector activity improved in September, as the country's Construction Total Activity Index increased from 54.6 seen in August to 56.8, an IHS/CIPS Markit report revealed on Tuesday.

The main growth driver for the month was home building, with commercial work registering a "strong rise" as well, the report read and added that civil engineering fell for the second time in a row "and at the sharpest rate since May."

"Forward-looking indicators point to a sustained rise in activity, with new work increasing at the quickest pace since before the lockdown and sentiment towards the 12-month outlook at its strongest for seven months," Eliot Kerr, Economist at IHS Markit, asserted.
