The United States Justice Department is about to charge this week Google LLC with violating antitrust laws, Axios reported on Monday citing internal sources.

If the department decides to push the lawsuit against the tech giant, the case will mark one of the most significant actions of that kind in the last 20 years. According to Politico's recent report, Google could be obliged to sell its Chrome browser if the Justice Department succeeds in its efforts. However, the future remains uncertain as there is less than a month left until the presidential elections in the US, the event that will likely affect the course of the proceedings.

A week ago, the Democratic Party released a report claiming that the Big Tech companies, Google included, are enjoying "monopoly power" in the virtual space.
