Wall Street closes mostly higher amid stimulus negotiations

Equities on major United States stock markets closed the trading session on Thursday in the green as the US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated that the Democrats wouldn't hold negotiations on the COVID-19 relief bill with the White House if they stalled. She also added she is optimistic regarding the possibility of passing the legislation but noted that the two sides still have come to an agreement on state and local funding and liability. Meanwhile, seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the country decreased by 55,000 to 787,000 for the week ending on October 17, according to a report by the US Department of Labor.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 0.55% at the close. Chevron Corp was the best performer going up by 3.56%. The Nasdaq 100 stood flat as Citrix Systems went down by 7.12%. The S&P 500 rose by 0.52% at the end of the trading session with Align Technology jumping by 34.97%.

The euro was 0.33% lower compared to the dollar, changing hands for 1.18196 at 3:55 pm ET.
