France's COVID cases up by record 42,032 to top 1 million

The number of daily coronavirus infections in France increased by 42,032 over the past 24 hours to reach a total of 1,041,075, the French Public Health Agency said on Friday. The figure marks the largest number of daily infections in the country since the start of the pandemic and means France became the third European country after Russia and Spain to register over 1 million cases.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 deaths in France rose by 184 to a total of 34,508. Health officials added that the COVID-19 test positivity rate in France rose to 15.1%.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated the country has no plans to reduce curfews and warned stricter containment measures may be needed to contain the virus.
