Changes to Section 230 to impact businesses - Pichai

Tuesday, 27. October 2020 22:40

Alphabet's Google Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai stressed in his remarks prepared for his hearing before the United States Senate Commerce Committee that that institution should be aware of the consequences the changes to Section 230 might have on businesses and consumers.

Pichai noted that "our ability to provide access to a wide range of information is only possible because of existing legal frameworks, like Section 230" but admitted that "the same low barriers to entry also make it possible for bad actors to cause harm."

Earlier this month, the committee set the hearing of Pichai, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for October 28 to examine if Section 230 corresponds to the current needs in content moderation.
