Dow up over 400 pts at opening after vaccine news

Major stock markets in the United States traded higher at the opening on Monday after Moderna Inc. announced its vaccine candidate against coronavirus showed 94.5% efficiency in the interim research. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci subsequently said a vaccine could be made available by late December. Meanwhile, German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier expressed his hopes Washington would improve its trade relations with the European Union under President-elect Joe Biden.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 1.32% or 410 points at the opening as Chevron Corporation advanced by 3.73%. The S&P 500 rose by 0.90%, with Kimco Realty Corporation increasing by 6.89%. On the other hand, the Nasdaq 100 went down by 0.20% as JD.com declined by 5.33%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to sell for $1.18294 at 9:28 am ET.
