Precious metals trade higher, gold hits 2-month high

Precious metals traded higher on Tuesday with gold hitting a two-month high earlier in the session at $1,950.59 per ounce.

Focus remained on the coronavirus pandemic and new lockdowns, namely in the United Kingdom, where health officials have been battling the highly contagious new strain of COVID-19. In US politics, traders awaited results from the two Georgia Senate runoff elections, which will determine control of the chamber for the next two years.

Gold rose 0.20% to $1,947.71 per ounce at 7:45 am ET, while silver gained 0.32% to $27.36 at the same time. Meanwhile, platinum climbed 0.84% to $1,079.03 an ounce. Palladium was up 2.14% to $2,433.29 per ounce at the time.
