Daimler AG reported on Friday its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz AG sold 2,164,187 units in 2020, a decrease of 7.5% per annum stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

The Asia-Pacific market was the only one that saw an increase in purchases, climbing 4.7% on the wings of double-digit growth in China. Meanwhile, the carmaker recorded a 16.4% drop in European sales and a 14.7% decline in the United States.

At the same time, Mercedes sold more than 160,000 plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles worldwide. Compared to the prior year, the figure was 228.8% higher, with approximately half of the sales taking place in the fourth quarter.
