Mueller wants Manafort in jail for up to 24 years

Special counsel Robert Mueller urged a Virginia judge to sentence United States President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort to between 19 and 24 years of jail, CNBC reported on Friday evening.

In a court filing, Mueller also proposed that the federal judge fine Manafort between $50,000 and $24 million, order Trump's ex-campaign manager to pay restitution of over $24 million and forfeit more than $4 million. The filing further stated that "for a decade, Manafort repeatedly violated the law," adding that "considering only the crimes charged in this district, they make plain that Manafort chose to engage in a sophisticated scheme to hide millions of dollars from United States authorities."

The news came after a judge ruled earlier this week that Manafort lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a grand jury, thereby violating the terms of his guilty plea.
