The number of casualties from Friday's shooting at an industrial park in Aurora, Illinois, rose to five wounded and five dead on Saturday, according to various media reports.

Reports had initially indicated that four law enforcement officers and multiple civilians had been injured. However, police confirmed on Saturday that the number of injured stood at five and that an equal number of people were killed during the shootout, including the shooter who was first thought to have been apprehended. He was identified as 45-year-old Gary Martin, who was previously employed at the Henry Pratt Co. facility where the shooting occurred. Hospitals reported treating a further seven patients from the shooting, with a sixth police officer also having been admitted for a knee injury.

The motive for the shooting, which took place about 40 miles (65 km) west of Chicago, remains unknown. United States President Donald Trump subsequently took to Twitter to praise Illinois police following the shooting.
