Asian shares mixed ahead of China data

Shares on markets in East Asia were mixed on Friday, as investors await the latest industrial production and retail sales figures from China. Earlier in the day, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said that industrial output fell in April. The sentiment was also affected by the tensions rising in the Middle East, after the United States accused Iran of attacking two tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 grew 0.40% at 7:35 am CET. South Korea's Kospi Composite fell 0.46% at the same time.

The Shanghai Composite index lost 0.59% at 7:55 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite tumbled 1.01%.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.63% at 7:56 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.12% at 7:57 am CET.

The dollar was flat compared to the yen at 7:58 am CET, buying ¥108.3275.
