ThyssenKrupp AG announced on Friday that Premal Desai will become the new CEO of its steel division, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG. Desai will replace current CEO Andreas Goss who will step down on June 15.

"Shaping the future of steel is a challenging task. There's a lot to do. We look forward to tackling this together as management team. The market environment is not easy, but we are in a strong position and have a lot of potential. We'll build on that," Desai stated. The incoming steel unit CEO has served as Steel Europe's CFO since 2015 and was previously the head of strategy at ThyssenKrupp.

ThyssenKrupp CEO Guido Kerkhoff said the company assembled a "strong team" ready to tackle the "major challenges" the steel business is facing following the cancelation of its deal with Tata Steel.
