BMW CEO Harald Krueger informed the company that he does not want to extend his contract for a second term at the top position at the German carmaker.

In a statement released on Friday, Krueger said: "The BMW Group has been my professional home for more than 27 years. After more than ten years in the Board of Management, more than four of which as the CEO of the BMW Group, I would like to pursue new professional endeavors and leverage my diverse international experience for new projects and ventures."

Krueger will be the CEO until his contract expires in April 2020, but chairman of the supervisory board of BMW Dr Norbert Reithofer stated that he will raise the issue of finding a replacement for Krueger at the board's July meeting.
