Car components maker Robert Bosch GmbH and Daimler AG received a green light from regulators for pilot project in driverless parking in Stuttgart in SAE International's level 4, one grade below full automation. The German companies said the driver takes the vehicle to the drop-off area and activates the function via a mobile application. The solution enables the user to summon the car as well.

Bosch enabled the infrastructure and automotive giant Daimler provided the technology for the so-called automated valet parking. The statement highlights the advantage in case the garage is cramped and adds that up to 20% more units can be placed in the same area.

"We are getting close to autonomous driving faster than many suspect. Driverless parking at the Mercedes-Benz Museum impressively shows how far the technology has already come," said Michael Hafner, who is responsible for selfdriving features in Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. The endeavor, which started in 2015, was approved by regulators in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
