Asian markets down amid Hong Kong situation, Japan data

Asian markets traded lower on Thursday after United States President Donald Trump suggested a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Investors also followed the situation in Hong Kong and awaited Japan's industrial production data. Markets in South Korea are closed for holidays.

China's Shanghai Composite was down 1.09% at 4:19 am CET. Shenzhen Composite also traded 1.22% lower at the same time.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng traded 0.40% lower at 4:22 am CET.

Japanese Nikkei 225 was down 1.31% at 4:22 am CET. The dollar traded 0.01% higher against the yen, to go for 105.9195 at 4:20 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 went down 2.26% at 4:21 am CET.
